Message From Ms. McGowan
Ulis Newton Elementary School is a warm, welcoming high-performing school because the teachers, parents, and community work together to provide the best education possible for every student. A key aspect to this partnership is family involvement. Teachers request the help of parent/community volunteers to prepare materials, work with students, complete projects, chaperone field trips, and help with class parties and events. We are always looking for parents to participate in our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and our School Organization Team (SOT). Please begin the CCSD badging process to attend field trips and work with students on campus. We are glad your child is here at Ulis Newton Elementary School. We intend to do our best to make each child feel safe, welcome, and excited about learning. A major part of our success has been establishing, communicating, and maintaining high expectations. Higher expectations bring higher achievement. We have established school-wide expectations aligned with developing leaders among students, teachers, administrators, staff, and our community aligned to the 8 Habits of Highly Effective Learners:
-
Habit 1: Be Proactive: You’re in charge of yourself
-
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind: Have a plan
-
Habit 3: Put First Things First: Work first, then play
-
Habit 4: Think Win Win: Everybody can win
-
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood: Listen before you speak
-
Habit 6: Synergize: Working together is better
-
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw: Regulate our minds and bodies
-
Habit 8: Find Your Voice: Leaders Speak Up!
This year our theme is, Newton Navigators are LEADERS! Our goal is to assist our students and teachers to be successful problem solvers and shoot for the stars! We know that success for our students, teachers, families, and community starts when we are united under shared goals. We know the importance of working alongside our families as partners in this work. We want to elevate our student and community voices so that we can celebrate and support each other daily. We know that together we can continue the great work being done here at Newton Elementary.
We ask that parents demonstrate the importance of a good education by making school a priority, ensuring school assignments are completed accurately, volunteering in their child’s classroom, and communicating with and supporting all teachers. If during the school year you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the school administration. We value your input!
Goal for 2026-2027: Be Great Leaders!
